Letter from the ESEAOR Regional Executive Committee

At our recent meeting held on the 18th October 2019 in Wellington, NZ the REC members had a constructive and positive discussion about the draft reform reports. We concluded that we would like to share our views regarding the reforms with the wider IPPF community.

• We firmly believe that IPPF needs to change its current governance and resource allocation model to a more vibrant modern, agile and transparent structure that is better suited to support the values of IPPF to provide SRHR services to those in need. A skill-based approach to the selection of Trustees is a key element of this.
• We expect the proposed governance changes to move IPPF closer to becoming a federation that listens to its members needs and concerns and is focused on delivering services to people in need.
• We believe that the proposed stream-based resource allocation model will lead to more transparency and better use of constrained resources. This will need to be balanced with a careful transition plan to ensure that effected MA’s have time to adjust.
• We have confidence in the process and the work of the commissioners has done to prepare us for a new chapter in the history of IPPF.
• We strongly support the current direction and approach outlined in the commission’s reports.
• We are encouraged that the commissioners have listened to concerns and have adapted the final reports accordingly. We believe that the proposed changes will work.
• We acknowledge that all the procedural details of how the new models will work cannot be defined until detailed planning for a transformation process starts.
• We hope that the reform process will continue to proceed at a fast pace.
The ESEAOR REC would like to thank the Commissioners and their teams for their diligent and collaborative work under considerable time pressure.
We also would like to acknowledge and thank everyone that has shared their views and opinions on the reform before us with the wider IPPF community. A strong federation needs a good and frank exchange of views and ideas.

With warm regards
ESEAOR REC:
